Home Sweet Home

So going from winter to summer is much easier when summer hasn't really started! We got in and have had a few days of rain with some sun so far - hopefully it gets here soon!

We survived our trip but we've definitely been happy to have 3 days to slowly get back in action before work begins. We were kind and left ourselves laundry to do on top of the tons we brought back. (Good news though, we didn't have a beer spill on 1 of the 3 legs of the journey! Dustin brewed with a friend in Surrey so we were bringing some back to NZ but lost one on the way to San Francisco! Also on the way to Canada, we lost one of Dustin's home brews he was bringing to share! Eeek.)

The trip was one of those ones that was actually only a couple weeks but felt like a month - probably because we packed so much into it! The couple days in San Francisco were no exception even though it was wet and windy - apparently the worst storm they have had in ages. We spent one day walking all over the city and the other inside at the Exploratorium doing science stuff.

We didn't manage to catch up with everyone we wanted to but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. Next time or they can come down here to visit :)

It was neat to see snow again but it reminded us of the reality of the living with it part and the icy streets! We definitely seemed to come for the most Canadian experience - we weren't expecting much snow since most winters didn't get a lot but not this season! The cool bit about that meant that we got to be really really Canadian and went tobogganing as well as skated on a pond "playing hockey" in one day! (I had never been on an icy pond before so that was cool.)

It was good to catch up with those we managed to see but of course it often felt too short. We were ready to be home with our buddy and making our own food - as much as we enjoyed the food-touring aspects of the trip, so many meals out was starting to hit us! Overall, everything in BC felt bigger than we're used to (houses, malls, cars, roads, serving sizes, population) so it was a crazy contrast to our last visit where I don't think we felt the difference as much.

Apologies for the jumpiness of this post - I just thought I'd like to post and there's so many things to cover! So, on to the photos - which are also kind of out of order:

  1. Well Katherine lied she has been on a frozen natural body of water when growing up in Cranbrook BC. The outing included a couple of friends Kelly and Jason who swore that he would marry Katherine. Love Mom
PS when visiting several years later Jason confessed that he didnt even remember who Katherine was.

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
